Title / Description: 02 Nash Papyrus portions of Deuteronomy
Date: 1st c. CE
Object Type: image - manuscript
Commentary: The Nash Papyrus was identified and made public at the beginning of the 20th century CE. At the time of the text's identification, it was the oldest Hebrew fragment containing Biblical text, dating to around the 2nd century BCE. The text contains portions that agree with the Septuagint version of Deuteronomy (and other portions related to the Septuagint versions of Deuteronomy and Exodus). Thus, this text provides a basis for comparing the Masoretic text of the Old Testament with the versions of the Old Testament circulating in Egypt.
